Social Media An individualistic social media process is creating a groundswell of deliberation on global issues, which are of significant importance in a crowded multi-functional world. Issues such as climate change, terrorism, trade, and finance are some of the dominant issues requiring solutions on a global scale. With whole societies moving to an increasingly individualist reality, the individual person will become more charged with creating their own identity, and become increasingly responsible for their own motivation and discipline to be creative in the methods within which they interact on the multitude of life processes facing them on a daily basis. Division of Labor The highly bureaucratic systems that have been put in place to accommodate the complex division of labor in society systematizes most of our daily functions and frees the individual to create a more meaningful life process of their own choosing where solutions are still in formation and are to be found in the more anonymous global context. At the same time as the individual becomes more responsible for carving out his or her own domain, they become more responsible for those decisions and thus any failures or set-backs in that identity. Where blame for personal difficulties have traditionally been placed on events beyond control of the individual, including that it might have been upbringing or caused by the state, each individual will be responsible for his or her success or failure. Self-Determination This self-determination will be made more difficult by the conflicting demands of the new global world and the range of possible solutions. With the full appreciation of the fact that many of the opportunities and problems seen in one’s life stem from the requirement for a global solution rather than a limited national one, there will be a requirement for a significant cosmopolitan view of the world by more and more citizens if these solutions are to be realized. Parallel to this will be seen the weakening of the nation state as citizens see greater effectiveness from more globalized action. This self-determined individuality then will become the new unit of analysis for a globally organized reality, creating solutions to society’s problems and increasingly pursuing global opportunities. Where once geographical location was the unit of analysis in a communitarian world with the individual socialized in that place, geographic criteria will dissolve and the individual will be the key determinant in the global framework. So while the individual is expected to carve out his or her own identity, that identity will be connected to a global society in which the various world identities will need to be socially consolidated to produce global opportunities and problem solving. A self-reliant individual’s happiness comes with the numerous successful attempts at achieving their desired ends. The greater the appreciation of the complex causal relationship that exists within each choice made, the greater the probability of individual satisfaction and the greater the contribution to the evolution of society. Personal Values This projected evolution will usher in significant social change at the individual level. Personal traits fundamental in our future children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will intensify toward an increased self-reliance indispensable to this growth in globalism. The essential values held by these self-reliant individuals will adapt to this new reality by placing greater societal emphasis on a cumulative lifetime of personal knowledge, understanding, optimism and integrity. As well this self-reliant ethic will bring greater focus to the individual values of diligence, courage and prudence. These seven personal values, if properly ingrained in an individual, will foster a lifetime of achievement and self-actualization. Each society that respects and encourages these values will evolve to a more advanced stage, depending on the plurality of individuals within that society possessing a higher scale on these values. Experience has shown that the greater the development of these seven values the greater the evidence of self-actualization in the individual. These values are deemed to be central as future individuals grow in this self-reliance contributing to a pervasive cosmopolitan viewpoint in support of a new era of humanitarian convergence= equilibrium.

Courage to be self reliant is elusive for many. The State has been part of the problem in that it seems unable to balance the scales between providing a safety net and at the same time not discouraging self initiative. For example many who are eligible for unemployment insurance are reluctant to seek employment especially if the job pays less. Without an incentive, most will stick with the safety net.
